Thomas Wright

Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council: 1938-39 (Labour)

Born: Horwich 31 October 1888

Draughtsman at Horwich Loco Works and later at Crewe.

Represented North Ward from 1929.

He took a keen interest in the engineering side of the Water and Sewage Works undertakings.

He was a member of the Fall Birch Hospital Committee and the Guardians Committee

He was a Governor of Rivington Grammar School and also represented the Council as manager of Chorley New Road, Lord Street and Lee Lane Council Schools.

He was County Council manager of Saint Catherine's School and taught at the Technical College. He was also a member of the Higher Education Committee of Council Schools.

Treasurer of Horwich Labour Party for a number of years and Vice Chairman of the North Lancashire Council of the Railway Clerks Association.

Nonconformist - The Horwich and Westhoughton Journal said that "he preached in every local pulpit except Chapel-in-the Fields and had a very fine library."

He moved to Crewe when he was transferred to the railway works there.
