Joseph Winter

Chairman of Farnworth Local Board: 1885-86 (Liberal)

Born: Huntingfield, Suffolk 1821

Died: Victoria Street, Southport, Lancashire 1892

Master Cotton Spinner.

Uncle of Walter Robert Winter, Chairman of Farnworth Urban District Council 1926-28.

He first worked in the warehouse of James Rothwell, Barnes Mill, Gladstone Road, when he was 10 years old. He worked his way up and by 1874 he was chief Salesman and one of the heads of the firm. He was chosen as Director of the new limited company, established in 1874, and continued in that position until moving to Southport in 1889.

He laid the foundation stone of the then new Farnworth Bridge.

He was President of Farnworth Reform Club.

He worshipped at the New Jerusalem Church, Kearsley.
