Dr Horace Wilfred Taylor

Mayor of Bolton: 1946-47 (Conservative)

Born: Bolton 11 October 1896

Died: Birmingham General Hospital 7 May 1961

Educated: Bolton School; Manchester University

General Practitioner.

Son of William Taylor - "pawnbroker, milliner and draper".

He was a family doctor in Derby Street, Bolton and later at Orient House, Wigan Road, Bolton.

Represented Derby Ward from 1935-47 and Rumworth Ward 1950-53.

Magistrate 1945.

Chairman of the Libraries Committee.

President of Bolton Medical and Ethical Society.

President of Bolton Rotary Club 1940.

Chairman of Rotary Club Youth Committee and was for a time a Scoutmaster.

Captain of Deane Golf Club.

Freemason.

He was a keen traveller and visited every country in Europe, including the then Soviet Union.

Anglican - he worshipped at Emmanuel Church.

He was described in his obituary as being "...known as a man who stood no nonsense, who was at times brusque, but always full of common sense..."
