James Stott

Colliery owner, manager and mining engineer.
Managing Director of the Westhoughton Coal and Cannel Company for many years, and proprietor of several collieries.
Associated with Stott's Pit, Westhoughton, which closed in 1936.
Elected to the Local Board in 1880 and served for three years.
A staunch Churchman, he gave generously to charities.
In 1886 he left Westhoughton for Ringley and later lived in Ducie Avenue, Bolton with his daughter.
Buried in Westhoughton Cemetery.
