Arthur Gordon Stone

Mayor of Horwich: 2019-21* (Liberal Democrat)

Born: Brighouse, Yorkshire 1955

Educated: Hipperholme Grammar School, nr Halifax, Yorkshire; University of Leeds; University of Liverpool

Known as Gordon Stone.

Initially worked in the Civil Service before graduating with BSc Hons Operational Research with Computing from University of Leeds.

Spent most of career in IT Industry, specialising in publishing, technical writing, PMO management and service level management before becoming a BTEC Assessor for a local college and Standards Verifier for one of the awarding bodies.

Elected to Horwich Town Council representing Church Ward in May 2017.

Deputy Mayor of Horwich 2018-19.

Keen runner and long distance walker.

Related to former Mayors of Brighouse, Yorkshire - John Henry Turner (1928-33) and George Turner (1952-54).

His wife, Julie, was Mayoress.

*Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, it was decided that the Town Mayor would continue in office for a second year.
