Robert Ronson

Mayor of Horwich: 1991-92, 2003-04 (Liberal Democrat)

Born: Bolton 22 May 1935

Died: Bolton 3 December 2018

Did his National Service in the RAF.

Former British Aerospace employee and radio and television service engineer.

First elected to Horwich Town Council in 1987.

First elected to Bolton Council in 1993.

Represented Horwich North East Ward until 2011.

Honorary Alderman of Bolton Metropolitan Borough, admitted 2011.

President of Bolton West Scouts.

As Mayor of Horwich he raised money for music in local schools and collected musical instruments from several very generous donors.

Made Honorary Freeman of Horwich 13 May 2013.

Husband of Barbara Ronson, Mayor of Horwich 1996-97 and Mayor of Bolton 2007-08.

He also served as the first male consort to a Mayor of Bolton.

A Civic Plaque was unveiled in memory of both Bob and Barbara Ronson on 11 November 2019 by Mayor of Horwich Gordon Stone on behalf of Horwich Town Council. It is located on the side wall of Horwich Civic Hall.
