John Pilkington

Chairman of Blackrod Urban District Council: 1944-45

Born: 4 March 1899

Died: 191 New Street, Blackrod 6 June 1959

Served in the First World War and was awarded the Military Medal during operations in France.

For 30 years he was a member of the staff of Davies and Eckersley Ltd., Adlington and when the works closed down under the concentration of industries in 1941 he took up the post of cashier at John Crankshaw Co Ltd, Horwich.

Air Raid Warden in Second World War from 1938.

First elected to Blackrod UDC in 1939.

Treasurer of Blackrod Council Charities.

Manager of Blackrod National School, Methodist School and Senior School, Governor of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School.

Founder and Treasurer of Adlington British Legion. Local representative of United Services Fund and Treasurer of Blackrod ATC.

Treasurer of the Ridgeway Private Bowling Club.
