Born: Bridge Street, Horwich 18 October 1868

Grandson of William Longworth who became owner of the bleachworks on Bridge Street Horwich in 1840.

Represented East Ward from 1896.

He served in the First World War as a Lieutenant in the Remount Service of the Army Service Corps - obtaining and training horses for the Army - and was allowed to retain his seat while absent but resigned in 1918.

He owned many fine racehorses, one of which, Logan's Rock, created great interest in the district when it was entered in the Grand National. Unfortunately it was not successful.
