Janet Lynn Halliwell

Mayor of Westhoughton: 2000-01 (Liberal Democrat)

Daughter of Ronald Halliwell, Mayor of Westhoughton 2004-05.

Her great-grandfather was Benjamin Mangnall who was one of the rescue workers at the Pretoria Pit Disaster. Benjamin had just finished his shift but went back to the pit to help with the rescue, which unfortunately consisted of recovering bodies. His brother Abel was killed, and Benjamin brought out his body. He was awarded a medal for bravery.

Her two charities were the National Meningitis Trust and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
