Later served two years on Horwich Town Council.

Magistrate - Deputy Chairman of the Juvenile Bench and member of the Magistrates Courts Committee.

Died after being taken ill while making his opening remarks at an employment tribunal.

His wife, Margaret, was Chairman's Lady.
