Philip Cannell

Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council: 1944-45 (Labour)

Born: Haslingden, Lancashire 21 August 1885

Died: Farnworth 21 December 1970

Iron Turner.

Son of Thomas Cannell, a policeman - originally from the Isle of Man.

Represented Central Ward 1939-50.

Chairman of the Water Committee, Streets Committee and the Road Safety Sub-Committee.

Represented Horwich on the County Fire Service Committee. He was responsible for allowing Horwich Loco Works Fire Brigade to cover the town of Horwich in 1950 saving annually £7,500.

Lead the Town's efforts to raise money for the Merchant Navy Comforts Service Fund in the Second World War.

His son was a prisoner of War in the Second World War.

Treasurer of Horwich Labour Party and a member of the AEU.

On the Board of Management of Horwich Co-operative Society.
