Dr John Orr Bennett

Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council: 1956-57, 1964-65 (Conservative)

Born: Lisburn, Ireland 23 August 1902

Died: Bolton Royal Infirmary 15 October 1966

Educated: Trinity College, Dublin

General Practitioner.

After qualifying as a doctor in Dublin he took a House Doctor post at Dewsbury Hospital, Yorkshire, where he met his future wife.

He later became a GP in Moss Side, Manchester before settling to practice in Horwich in September 1933.

Represented Central Ward 1950-53 and 1954-66.

He was a member of the Rotary Club and was Chairman of the Ulster Society, Manchester at the time of his death.

Three of his sons also became doctors.
