Edwin Barnes

Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council: 1906-07 (Liberal)

Born: Chorley, Lancashire 1857

Died: Chorley, Lancashire 27 July 1930

Born Edwin Welch - took Barnes name on marriage of his mother Mary Ann Welch to Joseph Barnes in 1861.

Corn and flour dealer, Winter Hey Lane, Horwich.

In 1921 he retired to Blackpool and his brother took over the business. He later returned to live in Chorley.

Councillor 1898-1913.

Member of the Reform Club.

He was a keen sportsman in his younger days and played cricket for Horwich.

Congregationalist - he was Chairman of the Trustees of Lee Lane Congregational Church until his death.
