Edmund Aspinall

Mayor of Bolton: 1923-24 (Conservative)

Born: Spring Gardens, Bolton 28 August 1858

Died: Vesperholme, Chorley New Road, Bolton 30 November 1940

Educated: Settle's Private School, Antelope Court, Bolton

Pork butcher.

Began work at 12 on the death of his father, also Edmund Aspinall, a whitesmith.

Elected to Derby Ward 1897.

Magistrate 1914.

Leader of the Conservative Party on Bolton Town Council for over 20 years.

Founded Aspinall's Buildings on Deansgate, Bolton - including the Aspin Hall - now occupied by Whittakers department store.

Made Freeman of the County Borough of Bolton October 21 1925.

Laid the cornerstone marking the commencement of the Town Hall extension and the building of the Civic Centre 6 April 1932.

His wife, Lilly, was Mayoress.
