Thomas Anderton

Mayor of Bolton: 1994-95 (Labour)

Born: Hemsworth, Yorkshire 28 November 1924

Spent most of his working life in cotton mills.

Served in the Royal Navy Coastal Force during the Second World War as a crew member on motor torpedo boats.

Licensee of The Griffin public house in Great Moor Street, Bolton 1972-74.

Machinist at Edbro Ltd from 1974 until his retirement.

Represented Daubhill Ward from1979.

Chairman of Leisure Services 1989-1993.

He recalled visiting HMS Beaver - Bolton's adopted ship - at Liverpool and having to leave the Mayor's Chain on dry land in case the ship sank and the Chain was lost!
